Oldest Man To Ever Live Passes Away

Oldest Man To Ever Live Passes Away

June 18, 2013 – Last Tuesday night Jiroemon Kimura, the oldest living person and oldest man that ever lived, passed away at the age of 116.

Kimura was in a hospital in the city of Kyotango, Japan where he was being treated for pneumonia. "As the only an to have ever lived for 116 years –and the oldest man whose age has been fully authenticated– he has a truly special place in history," said the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records Craig Glenday. A funeral was held for him on June 14.

Kimura became the oldest man ever on December 28, 2012 when he turned 115 years, 253 days old, breaking the record set by a Danish man named Christian Mortensen, who died at the age of 115 years, 252 days old. He became the oldest living person after the death of Dina Manfredini, died at the age of 115 after being the world's oldest living woman for only 13 days.

"Eat light and live long" was Kimura's motto in life. He ate three small meals a day and loved red bean cake and rice. When asked why he thought he has lived such a long life he said he wasn't sure, but that it might be due to the sun. "I am always looking up towards the sky. That is how I am," he said.

He leaves behind five children (two others passed away before he did), 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 13 great great grand children!

That's sad
